Anti-poaching efforts count very high amongst a long list of responsibilities.The sections are patrolled on foot, by bicycle or vehicle on a daily basis by well trained Field Rangers. It is a Section Ranger’s duty to ensure that his / her section is patrolled on a regular basis and that all irregularities are detected in time, if possible. And so, as of April 2014, the AWDF began with the selection of candidate rangers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Kenya and South Africa.Their core job functions include, but are not limited to: The primary function of a Ranger is to ensure the integrity of the section for which he/she is responsible. There are 22 different Ranger sections in the KNP. Every business unit is divided into various sections, with a section ranger and his/her staff assigned to protect the biodiversity (animals and plants) in that section. For management purposes, the Kruger National Park is divided into 4 business units (South, Central, North and Far North) with a District Ranger seated as the head ranger in each Business Unit. The back bone of nature conservation is seated in the ranger corps of the Kruger National Park.
